Rome, Italy’s capital, rises on the banks of the Tevere, approximately about 18 miles from its main outlet in the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is situated at the center of an undulating plain, the Campagna Romana, which is confined on one side by the hills of Monte Mario, Gianicolo and Monteverde and on the other side by smaller hills of volcanic origin – the so called "Seven Hills". There are the classical features, including the Colosseum, the rubbly Forum and Palatine Hill. There are relics from the early Christian period found in the ancient basilicas. The fountains and churches of the Baroque period also go a long way in determining the look of the city center. These are just part of the picture, which is an almost continuous history right up to present day.

Today, the port is connected by modern, efficient roads and railways and its maritime station offers banking services, tourist information and ferry service to the outlying islands.

On our cruise I think the most amazing piece of art I saw was Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel. One of the aspects of this particular piece of art was just the sheer size of the chapel and how he was able to so beautifully tell the story of the Bible from Genesis until Revelation.
